Stained Glass Tips for Breaking Glass

Trouble breaking glass after you score stained glass?
  • Use grozier pliers with the flat side up. Apply light downward pressure to break the score line.
  • If breaking a long score line, use running pliers, which will help avoid chipping the edges of the glass. Line the running pliers up with the score line and gently apply pressure until you see the score line run. If it's an exceptionally long score line, do the same thing to the other end of the score line.
  • For straight score lines, hang the glass over the edge of the cutting table. With a quick downward motion, snap the glass.
  • If you are doing a small straight line, you can hold the glass in your hands, apply pressure, breaking the piece along the score line.
  • Glass breaks when using pliers?

  • You may have been squeezing too hard.
