Clean and Polish Your Stained Glass Artwork

Create a Bright and Protective Finish For Solder and Came

It is important to clean and polish your stained glass art work to remove any tarnish or residue from your solder lines and capture a deep luster.

Stained glass supplies required to clean and polish your stained glass are finishing compound and polish.

Finishing compound removes tarnish and residue from solder lines. It will also protect your stained glass art work.

Polish is used as a compliment to your finishing compound. It provides a protective film and a shiny look that begs to be noticed.

Steps for Applying Finishing Compound

  1. Pour finishing compound on your stained glass art work which should be thoroughly dry. (Use only enough to lightly cover glass, solder lines and frame)

  2. Use a rag to spread finishing compound over the art work.

  3. Once compound dries (turns to a white film), use a soft scrub brush or rag to polish off the compound.

  4. Repeat this on the other side of your stained glass art work.

Check out Remove Tarnish for more information on finishing compound.

Steps for Applying Polish

  1. Apply a small amount of polish to solder lines and frame.

  2. Allow to completely dry and polish with a rag./li>

I have used Semichrome Polish and found it to be very effective.

Check out Polish for more information on polish.

Things to Remember

Finishing compound is to be applied to glass, solder and zinc frame.

Polish is to be applied to solder lines and zinc frame, not the glass.

The entire project needs to shine.

Only thing left to do is hang and admire!
