Copper Foil Tools

copper foil tools copper foil tools

Having the right copper foil tools will make foiling your stained glass art work fast and easy.

Two Ways To Foil

There are basically two ways to foil. One, is doing it totally by hand. The other way is by using a table foiler.

If you like foiling totally by hand, you will need the following tools.
  • foil dispenser

  • burnisher
Using a foil dispenser will help the hand foiler organize different sizes of foil and more importantly avoid having foil unravel.

Hand Foiling

Hand foiling is done by cutting a strip of copper foil the length needed to go around a glass piece. Then, the foil paper backing is removed. Next, the foil is centered along the edges of the glass piece. Lastly, the hand foiler uses a burnisher to press the foil securely to the surfaces of the glass.

If you find hand foiling frustrating and time consuming, you might want to try a table foiler.

Table Foiler

A table foiler automatically peels off the paper backing, centers it to the edges of the glass piece and partially crimps it.

Then use your burnisher to securely press the foil to the surfaces of the glass.

Different manufacturers make different table foilers. Take some time and check them out.
