Tips for Cutting Circles

Problems with cutting circles when making stained glass?
  • There are basically 4 steps for scoring circles.
  1. Score glass the shape of a circle free-hand or with a circle cutter, be sure to start and stop at the same point. You can use a permanent marker to place a dot where you started scoring, which will prevent you from going over the point where you started.

  2. Place your stained glass score line down on a piece of corrugated cardboard. Using light pressure, press along the score line until you see it run the circle.

  3. Turn the glass over again to the side you first scored on, then score several tangent cuts off the circle.

  4. Finally, break each tangent score with pliers or use Morton system. The circle should cut clean without jagged edges.
