Cutting Stained Glass




Having trouble cutting stained glass that is textured?
  • Cut on the smooth side of the glass. This will require turning your pattern template over.


Cutter wheel wears out quickly?
  • At the end of the score line, lift your cutter up instead of sliding it off the edge of the glass.


Having trouble following pattern lines when you score stained glass?
  • Push your cutter instead of pulling it.


Cutter leaks oil onto glass?
  • You may have too much oil in the reserve. A cutter only needs a few drops. Excess oil can also prevent copper foil from adhering to glass.


Bad breaks after scoring?
  • Too much pressure applied on glass with the glass cutter. Practice making straight scores on a scrap glass using varied amounts of pressure. Then use running pliers or a grozier to break out each score. The score that breaks the easiest will show you which amount of pressure you should use when cutting.


Trouble cutting deep curves?
  • Score the cuts progressing into the curve rather than making one score.
