Bring Focus to Your Stained Glass
Not Your Solder Lines

After flux residue has been removed and your stained glass art has dried, patinas may be applied.

This is a chemical used to change the color of soldered seams and metal came frames. The most common colors are copper and black. This liquid is used to make the focus of your stained glass art work the glass, color, texture and design, rather than the solder lines.

Steps for Applying

  1. Use a brush or a rag to dab on to zinc frame. (Brushing may cause streaking)
  2. Then pour or brush over all solder lines, insuring all edges of solder lines are truly covered.
  3. After a few minutes, carefully turn the stained glass art work over and apply it to the second side of the frame. Make sure edges of zinc frame are coated as well.
  4. Now repeat process to the solder lines on this side.
  5. After a few minutes, rinse off with water.
  6. Let stained glass art work air dry.

Things to Remember

When experimenting with a different color, make sure your frame material is compatible. If using black use zinc came. If using copper use copper came.

To protect your hands wear plastic gloves when applying.

Now your are ready to clean and polish your beautiful piece!
