Sensing Patterns invites visitors to hear and feel knitwear patterns through sound vibrations via a wearable audio system. This piece seeks to underline the relationship between the construction of knitted fabric, code and gesture.
Showcase and drop-in activity part of Digital Design Weekend.

Harnessing the technological properties of knitting, ‘Sensing Patterns’ looks at how structure can generate distinctive material properties by repeating a sequence of instructions, and how these properties can translate into different sensory outputs.

‘Sensing Patterns’ is powered by SubPac, supported by BOM, PlayLa.bZ and B-Side. Sound Designer: Narotam Horn. Tech Consultant : Jérôme Grard, InExtremis.

'Sensing Patterns' developed out of looking at new ways of recording and preserving material artefacts, and aims to explore the diverse possibilities digital conservation offers.

Special drop-in activity part of Digital Design Weekend, a free digital art and design festival taking place on 23 and 24 September, discover the full programme here: https://www.vam.ac.uk/digitaldesign
