Precautions to Take When Soldering

Soldering safety is very important. Soldering irons become very hot.

You need to make sure the electrical cord is never near the tip as it will burn through the protective coating.

The area around your soldering iron should be clear to avoid burning other objects or your cord becoming entangled.

• To avoid burns, never touch the soldering tip when turned on
• Make sure the iron is plugged into the correct size outlet
• If necessary, use only a heavy duty extension cord
• Don't bang or drop the iron as this will damage the ceramic heater inside



• Turn iron off when not in use, prolonged idle time can burn out the heating element


• Occasionally remove the tip and lightly tap the tip to remove any debris


• Never lay your hot soldering iron on a flat surface. Always return it to its solder iron holder
• You should not eat drink or smoke when soldering due to the lead in the solder
• If stained glass art work will be handled after completion, choose to use lead free solder
