Types of GlassFrom Cathedral Stained Glass to Antiquw Art Glass There is a vast choice of types of glass. They differ in how they are made, their look and price.  Antique Art Glass Made by blowing molten glass into a cylindrical mold. After the top and bottom of the glass cylinder is removed, the glass is cut lengthwise and annealed in a glass kiln. During this annealing process the glass flattens into sheets of irregular thickness. Antique art glass is very transparent. Semi-Antique Glass Like the antique glass, this glass is hand blown then swung on the end of a blowpipe. This causes semi-antique glass to be thinner than antique art glass. Machine-Made Antique Glass Resembles expensive antique art glass. Thickness and color are uniform and is commonly referred to as new antique or drawn antique glass. Cathedral Stained Glass Comes in a wide selection of colors and textures. Named after the first tinted glass used in the 10th century European cathedrals. It is commonly a single color transparent glass. Opalescent Glass This glass is made by adding one or more colors to a milk white base giving it a semi-opaque milky appearance. Translucent Glass This is a semi-transparent glass. It allows light to filter through, thus distorting background images. Streaky Glass This glass is made by stirring two colors together. The streaking produces dimension in the glass. Whispy Glass Similar to streaky glass, but with whispy glass the streaks are more whispy as seen in clouds. Opal Glass One of the least transparent glasses, can be solid color or mixed colors, is made by adding flourine during production to promote crystalization. Fractured-Streamers Glass This glass is made using clear or white glass with paper-thin shards of colored glass floating in it. Much like confetti. Mardi Gras Glass This glass is made by combining frit and streamer onto a clear background. It is important that you know the different definitions of the types of glass?
